This vessel, designed and built to classic lines and style, took her original owner, master carpenter Jack Day of Sequim Washington, 7 years to complete. Jack is well known and respected in the wooden boat building industry and started his apprenticeship on wooden boats at the Seattle Wooden Boat School in the late 1930's. He drew inspiration from the likes of Bill Garden. The custom bronze work is from the Port Townsend Foundry where Pete Langley still retains the moulds used. The Sails are by Barney Abrams of Seattle. Blue Jacket was built from plans drawn by Howard Chapelle, a well-known designer of traditional American sailing craft. This was a one-off commission given to Chapelle by the builder Jack Day. Hence Blue Jacket is a one of kind vessel. No others have been built to this design. She is a staysail schooner with the jib and staysail both on furlers. The vessel is sturdily constructed of 1 3/4" red cedar planking fastened to white oak frames with silicone bronze screws. The gaps between the planks are wedge seam spliced instead of being caulked. The framing material is all yellow cedar with teak decks, trim, windows, and cabinetry.

"BROKERS COMMENTS"
This is one of the most spectacular examples of a wooden sailboat we have seen in a long time both from structural/execution and aesthetic perspectives. This vessel is a unique one-off to a design by Chapelle commissioned by the builder Jack Day. No expense has be spared to execute every stage of construction to the absolute best of standards. This is a vessel that is not only beautiful to look at, but she is well laid out as a superb cruising vessel and performs wonderfully under sail. For the discerning yachtsman who is looking for the wooden sailing vessel that encompasses excellence in construction, execution, design, aesthetics, sailing performance, and livability, then this vessel is a must see.
One could say that Blue Jacket is not about money, she is about man and his love affair with the sea and sailing.
