In WWII, the Army Contracted ship builders around the country to built 170 65-foot, diesel-powered, passenger cargo boats that doubled as harbor tugs, known as tug-transports, or T-boats. Four were built at Blanchard boat yard in Seattle, WA. This vessel was “T-boat 32”
Designed by famed naval architect Ralph Winslow. Following a military career, the vessel was sold into civilian life. Where many of these types of vessels were de-commissioned for relatively obscure demise, this is the example of a passion for restoration and updating without equal.
Paspatoo was given a "keel up" retrofit at Admiral Boatworks, Port Townsend WA.
Retrofit interior designed by Eden and Eden Architects, San Francisco, CA.
Paspatoo’s yacht conversion commenced from 1986 through 1999 and her modernization with redundancy took place off and on from 2003 through 2017
The hull construction is Carvel planking of 2-1/4" Old Growth Douglas Fir. Framing is 3x3 on 12" centers. The decks are teak planked.
Paspatoo is a professionally maintained 1942 Blanchard Wooden Classic. Originally built for servicing WWII military ships, this custom vessel is perfect for living aboard or long-range passage making. Redundant backup svstems throughout the vessel ensure owners and their guests will have a comfortable and safe stay aboard.
She has been re-powered with a single Detroit Diesel 6v92 and features two house generators
Paspatoo offers two staterooms and two full-sized heads - the solan can also be configured to comfortably sleep two
Her owners will feel right at home in the full-beam master cabin below decks. Paspatoo is a fully-customized yacht offering a walk-around queen berth, large seating area, desk, and entertainment center with Flat Panel HDTV and surround-sound
Paspatoo's current owner spares no expense in keeping her extremely well maintained and in Bristol condition. He has put great thought into her well-being. The systems, which have been added make her a first class custom wooden classic yacht with modern amenities
The deck level wheelhouse has a full width helm station. Port and Starboard doors lead out to the side decks. Next aft is the main salon with a U-shaped galley and large dinette giving a casual grand room feel. The passageway to port leads to the on deck level master cabin with double berth and en-suite head and generous built in storage and hanging locker cabinetry. A door leads aft to the back deck and hot tub area.
Stairs aft of the main salon lead below deck to a short passageway. Forward is the second cabin and media entertainment salon. A large berth along with seating are arranged for relaxation and enjoying a movie on the flat screen home movie entertainment center. Elegant woodwork and cabinetry give this area a warm rict feel. The adiacent head with full size bath tub are user friendly as the fixtures are comparable to those seen in a residential application, or as you would encounter on a luxury cruise liner.
Aft leads to the utility area with washer/ dryer, electrical panel access and work bench. Next is the door to the engine room, lazarette access to main generator and underbody of below deck hot-tub.
The galley is bright with storage and counter space that rivals most residential kitchens. Beautiful cabinetry, counter tops and double stainless steel sink. The full size side by side Frigidaire Euro-flare refrigerator/ freezer and Gaggeneau four-burner range with electric oven will satisfy the needs of the most demanding chef. Complete with microwave oven, dishwasher and combo laundry machine, trash compactor and central vacuum, life at sea is not without creature comforts to enhance the experience.
Hull; constructed of old growth Douglas fir planks. Carvel planking is 9"x 2 ½"on hull below waterline, hull sides are 4"x 2 ½" planks. Planking is fastened to 3"× 3" oak frames, which are on 12"centers. Planking fastened galvanized fasteners. Floors and stringers are bolted to framing. The hull has inner planking on hull insides. On the exterior of hull, planking is in excellent condition and no signs of weepage sighted at fastener locations Planks are not proud of each other and butt ends are in prefect condition. Planks are not cupped and no splits are visual on butt ends. Plank seams are tight and caulking is in good order. Aft of the long keel is an iron foot, which carries the load of the rudder. This is securely fastened to the bottom or the keel with bolts. At the stem, the timber is jointed to forefoot and keel with metal strap forming a gripe plate to strengthen stem to keel joint.
The planking is well hooded into the rabbet of stem post. Large rub rail timber is attached to hull just below the shear. Ironwood is used on starboard bow to protect hull from anchor.
