Through the efforts of the current owner, a NW School of Wooden Boat Building graduate, over his twelve years of ownership, ‘Malle’ is gorgeous and in turn-key condition. ‘Malle’ was built in Denmark by Larson Boatworks in 1936. She is carvel, with Pitch Pine Planks on Oak Frames with Copper Rivet Fasteners. The mast and boom are solid Fir with an external cast iron keel. New rudder in 2007 (Iron Wood Cheeks on White Oak). In 2017 ‘Malle’ got a new backbone with Robert D'Arcy Marine Services: New stern stem, stern knee and floors, including new frames, new keel bolts, new planking and fasteners below the water line and new bronze gudgeons for the rudder.
She’s powered by a new Elco Electric Motor, recently re-aligned, that pushes her along at 6 knots. The boat has a charging system for both the 12V (House) and 36V (Motor) electrical systems. The motor is run off of 3-8D Sealed (no-maintenance) Batteries, which are stored around the base of the mast in heavy duty weather proof cases. The house batteries are stored in the cockpit. The mast was un-un-stepped and re-varnished in 2011. Her Main, Jib and Genoa are in very good/near new condition, all made by NW Sails, she also includes a Spinnaker. The Standing Rigging was new in 2007and the Running Rigging has all been replaced in the last few years. She also has a full boat cover that was made by NW Canvas, with removable fore and aft pieces. She was last hauled in 2018 for topside and bottom paint, new varnish and new zincs.
Down below ‘Malle’ looks and smells great! Her interior is in very good condition with two settee/berths and a folding table. She has a small galley area aft on the port side for her butane stove to sit on with a cooking deflector on the overhead. On starboard is a sliding cabinet housing the Electrical Panel for the boat, recently re-wired with a new panel. There is lots of storage onboard and the wood is all in very good condition.
Spidsgatters are rare to find on the market and this one has been extremely well taken care of in Port Townsend by professionals. ‘Malle’ is ready to sail and her engine is almost as quiet as the sails! She’s a beauty and deserves to be seen in person for anyone interested in owning a Spidsgatter!
Showings available immediately by appointment only, thank you.
